MORE THAN 200 LOCAL AUTHORITIES HAVE JOINED THE FHRS Chesterfield Borough Council, Derby City Council, Knowsley Council and Nottingham City Council have rolled out the Agency's Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. Nearly 200 local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are now publishing nearly 170,000 ratings at food.gov.uk/ratings.

Other local authorities will be rolling out the scheme over the next few months.

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme helps you choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving you information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways, hotels and other places you eat, as well as in supermarkets and other food shops.

We are a very experienced team of Environmental Health Officers, providing help and advice for food businesses across the country. We work with a lot of indenpendant food businesses helping them get the best food hygiene rating possible for their catering operation - whether it is a cafe, care home, children's nursery, restaurant, hotel or pub

Over the forthcoming year Local Authorities in England and Wales will be adopting this scheme during their routine visits to the food businesses in their area. The inspecting officers have to operate to scoring guidelines when awarding a business it's hygiene rating from 0-5.

EHOs will publise their ratings on a national website, and whilst there isn't a legal requirement for a food businesses to display their rating, this looks set to change in Wales next year.

We have a good understanding of the working of the guidelines for this scheme, and this enables us to help you prepare and then maintain a good hygiene award.

As the media is making good use of the Freedon of Information Act to find out how hygienic food premieses are, the Government has spent a lot of time researching ways of being proactive and publicising the inspection findings of Local Authority EHOs. They have looked at the work done in other Countries where it is mandatory for food business to display their rating at the entrance to the premises, and on the whole they thought the idea was positive one.

At the moment the 0-5 award scheme in the UK is not mandatory, but we are told that there is a lot of support for it from business and in Government. The Government's research tells us that in these tough economic times, businesses want to additional ways to attract our custom. By getting the public to take note of the hygiene rating for a food business, they hope that they will vote with their feet when they purchase food.

Let us get you to the top of the pile and help you publicise that your catering operation is one of the best in your area. Whether is it helping you get prepared before you get a visit from your local EHO or helping you put things right after an appeal, by using Machin & Toplass we believe that you will be using the best there is in the UK.

We also have one of the best domain names for the scheme and by working with us we will promote your business on our website.
